My Fair Valentine 2012 – City Council Outreach

Geoff Krauter with Councillor Mathieu Fleury (Rideau-Vanier)In advance of Valentine’s Day, FTOÉ sent invitations to Ottawa City Councillors to receive a Fair Trade Valentine (Camino chocolate and a Fair Trade rose). Out of 21 invitations, we have secured eleven meetings between mid-February and early March.

These meetings contribute to our campaign Goal #1 (Municipal Recognition). We need the City of Ottawa to recognize, promote and purchase more Fair Trade products, which includes an official motion of support by City Council. By meeting with councillors, we are able to introduce ourselves, get their feedback on our initiative and improve our work. So far, the meetings have been very encouraging!

OTTAWA, January 23, 2012 – Fair Trade Ottawa Équitable gets its first bad press on account of a misunderstanding of what Fair Trade means. Many thanks to Amber and Michael for calling in to present their views and help the host understand what Fair Trade is all about!

My Fair Valentine 2012 – Ottawa U Outreach

FTOÉ teamed up with Engineers Without Borders on the Ottawa U campus to bring Fair Trade to Valentine’s Day celebrations! We sold a lot of Fair Trade candy-grams, gave out a lot of info cards on Fair Trade, and had some great conversations with people about the campaign to get Ottawa U recognized as a Fair Trade campus!

EWB Carleton’s Winter Classic – shinny in the park!

February 11, 2012 (10:00) at Brewer Park

Fair Trade Ottawa Équitable is proud to be a part of the first ever EWB Winter Classic: the event where Canada’s favourite pastime meets international development!

Come out on February 11th for an awesome day of good old-fashioned shinny hockey on Brewer Park’s outdoor rink brought to you by Engineers Without Borders Carleton!

We’ll be using the brand new RUBR hockey pucks all day so even if you’re not playing, be sure to come and check out these awesome pucks! The pucks are made from fairly traded natural rubber from Liberia and are manufactured in Canada. It’s a win-win-win for everybody! We’re super excited to be using these pucks and if you come out, you’ll understand why!

Each team is guaranteed at least 4 games and the winning team will have its name engraved on the tournament plaque to be displayed in the Minto hallway display case. AND each player from the winning team will receive a voucher for an Ottawa 67’s game ticket!

There will also be other exciting prizes so come visit us at the EWB office (Minto 2098) to register and for more information!
